You have been more of a contemporary romance writer but your new release AN AUTOGRAPH FOR ANJALI is a romance thriller? What inspired the change?

Hi Paromita,

Thank you so much for hosting me on your blog😀

Yeah, all my books so far have been contemporary romances.

Though, I have tried to bring a bit of thrill in my first novel, The Malhotra Bride, where a blackmailer shoots at Akshay Malhotra. There’s even a detective who manages to catch the culprit.

In Meghna, there’s a plane hijack, during which the heroine gets injured.

The Runaway Bridegroom brings you a 13-year-old Veerendra who runs away immediately after his marriage to 8-year-old Chanda. Private Detective Samrat goes in search of him fourteen years later.

So, I can say that I have been playing with a bit of thriller element in my romances most of the time.

In An Autograph for Anjali, the story begins with the murder of Anjali’s husband. While there is a bit of suspense, it’s not exactly a thriller or whodunit. It’s predominantly a romance, with a dash of thrill. I suppose I always enjoy toying with a bit of thrill and there’s a little more of it in this novel. If you have read my other books, you will recognise Private Detective Samrat from The Runaway Bridegroom playing a role in this one too.

Another major change that readers will see is the way the story has been presented – from the point of views of all the characters. Each chapter is portrayed from one person’s view, even the blink-and-miss characters.

I must say that I enjoyed writing this one. As for inspiration, well, the story unfolded by itself and insisted on being told, exactly the way it is.

Blurb:

Jayant Mathur is found murdered in his bed, shot at point-blank range with his own revolver. Though she’s extremely disturbed by his death, Jayant’s wife Anjali is way more upset about something else. Who stands to gain by killing the multi-millionaire businessman?
Parth Bhardwaj is a friend and neighbour of the Mathurs. Parth is an author who goes by a pseudonym. He appears more than a friend to Anjali; while he’s also on good terms with her son Arjun who lives and studies in the UK. What role does he play in Anjali’s life? Jayant’s relatives are curious to know.
Jayant’s brother-in-law Rana is convinced that Parth and Anjali are the murderers. But Inspector Phadke has his own doubts about this theory. In comes Samrat, the private detective who appears as quiet as a mouse. Will he be able to find the murderer? Will Anjali find happiness and peace?
