My Review:

I came across the movie while surfing YouTube. The film is an adaption of novel  Tess of the d’Urbervilles: A Pure Woman Faithfully Presented by Thomas Hardy and was premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival,September 2011

Trishna as per my view is very raw, nude and blunt. Nothing about it is commercialized. I think that makes it apt for a certain sect of viewers.

The story is about a rural girl Trishna (Frieda Pinto) who is forced to take up the responsibilities of her family after her father’s accident. She works in a hotel and comes in contact with an NRI (Riz Ahmed) who takes interest in her since his eyes set on her. Interestingly, his concern in her is more sexually oriented and he rapes her. Nevertheless their relationship blossoms and leaves the girl in a very stressful situation where she slowly understands that she is  victimized.

The movie has ample bed scenes and set in Rajasthan yet the story will leave you aghast. A clear message as how the NRIs abuse the innocent girls and make their life miserable. Worth a watch if you are interested in parallel cinemas. The movie is available on YouTube.
